Over the years, the scope of the organization has grown from the sharing of information among members to lobbying the state legislature. NHCamps conducts professional development workshops annually. The organization strives to educate and guide parents/consumers in the choosing of an appropriate summer program. NHCamps publishes an annual camp guide which features member camps and also maintains this user-friendly website with information for parents and camp staff.
Summer camp is a solid element of the New Hampshire state economy, providing jobs, tourist visits, and state administrative revenue, in addition to the countless safe, fun, and unforgettable summer experiences. In 2008, the summer camp industry in New Hampshire was estimated to provide $159 million to the state economy, including both direct and indirect effects. This includes 2,500 seasonal jobs and more than 50,000 out-of-state visitors.
It is estimated that 150,000 children attend camp in New Hampshire each summer. Campers and staff come from across the United States as well as a growing number from around the globe. Each member camp has its unique focus from mountain climbing to the arts. NHCamps continues to be committed to the health and safety of campers and staff.
