As we mentioned last Friday, for the first time since the Civil War, the Senate and House will meet in session outside their chambers. On June 11, the Senate will take over Representatives Hall where the 400 member House usually meets. The House will meet at the University of New Hampshire’s Whittemore Center, which normally is home to the hockey team.
House Speaker Shurtleff said in this week’s House Calendar, “We hit a milestone this week as we have now remotely completed the executive sessions on 30 bills. Also this week, we saw four committees meet, which is the most we have been able to have in the course of one week during this pandemic. Several committees held work sessions on numerous bills, a process which as you know, often has public input moving us towards being able to hold public hearings on bills.”
This week under limitations, restaurants were allowed to open for outdoor dining as well as some other business sectors including equestrian facilities, outdoor attractions for 10 or fewer people for biking, canoeing, kayak rentals, outdoor driving ranges, small fishing charters and guide services for hunting and fishing. New Hampshire’s coastline will remain closed through Memorial Day weekend but the Governor may announce later today, that they could open June 1 for transitory physical activity such as walking, running and swimming.
The Governor’s Economic Reopening Task Force continues to approve draft guidelines for various business sectors. Some of the sectors this week included outdoor weddings, day and overnight camps, low-contact youth sports practices, museum visits and acupuncture. The draft guidance will be reviewed by Public Health and then go to the Governor for his decision.
