Legislative Update – May 1, 2020

It is expected that later this afternoon the Governor will announce modifications to the stay-at-home order that expires May 4.

On Wednesday, the Governor said, “We are planning to flex open around certain sections of the state where we can open in a smart, phased-in approach that is always putting public health first.”

Meanwhile, the Governor’s Economic Re-Opening Task Force continues its work, meeting on a daily business. They have been hearing presentations from various business sectors on how they could open safely. On Wednesday and Thursday, they approved draft phased-in plans for golf courses, state parks and beaches, manufacturing, restaurants, retail stores, hair salons, campgrounds and drive-in movies. The recommendations have gone to the Department of Health and Human Services and the Governor for review. It is expected that the Governor will announce some of these recommendations/plans at the press conference.

The House Finance Committee was the first policy committee to meet remotely in the history of the NH House. Using a zoom webinar system, they had an executive session on several bills. The meeting went without any technical glitches and as a result the Municipal and County Government Committee has scheduled an executive session for next week. It is expected more committees in both the House and Senate will be doing the same over the next few weeks.
