About YMCA Camp Otter

Established in 1957, YMCA Day Camp Otter is a scenic daytime get away for boys and girls ages 6 to 13; and over 40 staff from the Merrimack Valley. Camp Otter is made up of 13 acres and is located on the sandy shores of Captain's Pond in Salem, NH. Camp Otter is a co-ed day camp with daily transportation provided throughout the Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire. It is accredited by the American Camping Association, licensed by the state of New Hampshire and operates in accordance with the YMCA of the USA best practices. Nestled among pine trees and protected wetlands, Camp Otter consists of 12 camper cabins set up in a village manner to promote community. Our health director heads the medical program and a local doctor is always on call. Program areas include a swimming area for both instructional and free swim time, boating, basketball and volleyball courts, multi-sport playing field, low and high ropes courses, archery range, and arts and crafts. Along with the weekly themes, Otter days are filled with all-camp activities and visits from special guests. Although competitive opportunities may occur in some of these special programs the emphasis is always on fun!! Campers also get a chance to develop valuable life skills at Camp Otter. Through our character values, campers learn how to be caring, honest, responsible and respectful to fellow campers and to the world around them. Also each camp day begins and ends with a flag ceremony where an opening and closing thought is given.
